What does Rest Day mean in The Regulation?

Referring to the Employment Ordinance, all employees should be entitled to a number of rest days during employment. On rest day, employees can abstain from work for 24 hours.

When can employee have a Rest Day?

Under a continuous contract of employment(418), the employee is entitled to not less than 1 rest day in every period of 7 days.

They may be granted on a regular or irregular basis(the employer must inform employees the rest days of the coming calendar month before the month begins)

Can We Ask Employees to Work Continuously without Resting?

Employers cannot compel employees to work on rest days. If an emergency requires employees to work on the rest day, the employer must substitute another rest day.

The employer must arrange an alternative rest day for the employee within 30 days after the original rest day and notify the employee of the arrangement within 48 hours after the employee is required to work

Does Rest Day have Pay?

Whether a rest day is paid or not is to be agreed upon by employers and employees.
